Inside Anne’s Closet Fashion Show and Luncheon

Fashion with a Heart!

I recently had the honor to attend the 3rd Annual Inside Anne’s Closet celebrity fashion show and fundraiser luncheon, which was held at the Menlo Circus Club in Atherton, CA.  It was a wonderful event supporting a non profit that is helping to save lives, The Colon Cancer Alliance.

The mission of the Colon Cancer Alliance is to knock colon cancer out of the top three cancer killers. It was founded in 1999 by 41 colon cancer survivors, their family members, care givers and friends. The lifetime risk for contracting colon cancer is 1 in 23 for women and men. 90% of colon cancers are diagnosed after age 50. Prevention is key and colon cancer has one of highest cure rates if found early.  The Colon Cancer Alliance has an informative and easy to navigate website.  There is even a quiz you can take to assess your risk factors, and so much more valuable information.  They also have financial assistance forms you can fill out online for help paying for screening and medical tests. There is also a helpline you can call to answer any questions. There are so many incredible resources available thru this truly amazing nonprofit organization.

This years Honorary Chair was world famous American Fashion Designer and colon cancer survivor Carmen Marc Valvo. He was inspired to make colon cancer prevention fashionable, and  spread awareness and the message of early detection by his good friend, Katie Couric.  Carmen Marc Valvo donated an amazing New York Fashion Week package with private cocktail parties with A-list celebs, and including a personal fitting and one of his elegant couture designer dresses! This auction was exciting and really got the crowd going, with Mr. Valvo spontaneously deciding to generously donate not 1 but 4 lucky auction winners this amazing package! That was a crowd pleaser!

The elegant event was in honor of Event Chair John Paye’s (Stanford Hall of Fame Quarterback and former San Francisco 49er) mother Anne, who passed away in June 2013 at age 68 from the disease. Anne, was a lover of fashion and inspired friends and family to be proactive and spread the word about screening and prevention and reaching out to underserved communities.  Bay Area NBC anchor Jessica Aguirre was a spectacular emcee of the event, and looked gorgeous in a stunning Carmen Marc Valvo cocktail dress.

Valentines with Beth Quinn Designs- jewelry with soul-swag!

IMG_2400

I recently discovered an artisan jewelry maker who makes soulful and beautifully inspired pieces. It’s actually hard for me to put into words everything that Beth Quinn represents- her creative offerings are so vast. I will try, but I encourage you to take a look at her website.  There is something very special in her creations- I think it has a lot to do with blending the masculine, working with metals, which she learned and inherited from her Father,  and the feminine essence of creativity, which she cultivated from being inspired by her Grandmother. As Beth says, her jewelry is full of her love for the old, worn and shiny…. But also I see an artful blend of feminine and masculine- I just know when I put my Beth Quinn piece on I feel very inspired!

Beth is a self-taught jewelry and mixed media artist, who lives in Arizona with her husband and two young boys. All of her pieces are handmade in her studio. She uses tools she inherited from her dad when we passed away. I can’t help but think what a wonderful way to honor her dad.  Much of her jewelry has the word “she” in it- these little affirmations are meant to bring joy to the women who wear them- they include sparkle and are meant to be worn close to your heart. She also makes home decor and such a large variety of pieces that will add a bit of sparkle and soul-swag to your bedroom or even your office. She also makes these really cool dreamcatchers!

Beth Quinn also has a number of gifts that give back.  Please see below and this inspiring necklace.

Parisian Fashion at the San Francisco Fairmont

photo-66On the evening of October 25th, 2014, the fashion elite (and little old moi!) gathered in the Grand Ballroom, at the Fairmont in San Francisco.  Smokey-eyed models strutted down the runway wearing the latest in Parisian Haute Couture. This slice of Parisian Heaven was hosted by the always elegant, Elisabeth Thieriot. Ms. Thieriot is the publisher of a fabulous fashion mag,  FSHN Magazine and creator of the ultra-luxe skincare line, Replete Seasonal Skincare. This fashion soiree featured two of the top 10 couture brands in the world, Frank Sorbier Haute Couture Paris and on aura tout vu. This was their first time showing in the United States. American designer Mimi Tran also showcased her gorgeous collection of sexy and elegant gowns. It really was a night I will long remember. Here are a few runway shots of the models (you can click on any of the photos to enlarge them – the details are beautiful!)

Win these ICU Sunglasses!

Eco-Chic Sunglasses – ICU Sunglass Review and Giveaway! OVER- Congrats Cecily from Texas!!!!

Win these ICU Sunglasses!

Win these ICU Sunglasses and one other Tortoise shell frame pair! ICU has gifted me with 2 pairs to giveaway to my followers!

Cute sunglasses with UVA/UVB protection are a must-have fashion accessory for the skin and sun savvy girl on the go! Sunglasses protect our eyes from damaging rays that can cause eye health issues and of course they also protect the vulnerable skin around the eyes as well. The skin around the eyes is the thinnest skin on the body and lacks oil glands so this skin is easily damaged and usually the first area of the face to show premature aging. The muscles between the eyes are called the corrugator and this is the most common area that men and women get Botox injections since when we squint these muscles come together and eventually make the lines commonly referred to as the “11” by our dermatologist and plastic surgeon friends. This is so common that the company that distributes Botox  has created a whole advertising campaign about the “11” lines. We can stave off the development of these lines by avoiding squinting when possible- good sunglasses will help immensely!  Pigmentation issues can pop up around the eyes too so protect your peepers with sunglasses that offer both UVA/UVB protection. Remember that UVA rays penetrate through glass so when we are driving we aren’t protected from the sun.

I recently discovered a wonderful brand called ICU Eyewear that not only offer UVA/UVB protective lenses but are stylish, eco-friendly and affordable – yes affordable! Sometimes “eco-anything” denotes a higher price tag but the folks at ICU eyewear in Hollister, CA want everyone to have gorgeously protective sunglasses so they are priced just right – you may want to buy several pairs for different outfits, events, moods, hair colors (you know who you are! etc.) You are sure to find a pair that will reflect your own personal style! ICU was the first sunglass company in the U.S. to make designs with reclaimed plastic, recycled metal and sustainable bamboo. They are fashion-forward and some even incorporate sparkle and really fashionable designs – there are some very sophisticated designs and pink and sparkly too which works for me! They are sold online and in many stores including Whole Foods. The good folks at ICU Eyewear donate 1000’s of pairs of their reading glasses every year to charity! They have the cutest reading glasses and an online chart on their site which can tell you what percentage of magnification you need so there is no guessing games there. Also, it is interesting to note that studies say 73% of adults wear sunglasses and that only 58% of adults make their children wear sunglasses. I think it’s great that ICU has cute and affordable sunglasses for children too!

I have two different pairs to give away to one lucky reader!  Just comment on this post and share it on social media for a chance to win! The winner will be contacted Sept 20th and announced on my blog. This contest is only open to U.S. residents.

You can check out all the great styles at http://www.icueyewear.com
